D125CE Solid Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Dreadnought Guitar by Guild

The D125CE Solid Mahogany acoustic-electric dreadnought guitar, proudly presented by Guild, is a remarkable instrument that effortlessly blends traditional design with modern technology. This guitar, featuring a solid mahogany construction, is sure to make a lasting impression with its rich, resonant sound and elegant aesthetics.

Body:

At the heart of the D125CE lies its robust, solid mahogany body. Mahogany is a highly-prized tonewood known for its resonant and warm tonality, which imbues the guitar with a full, rich, and balanced sound. The dreadnought body shape, a classic design popularized by Martin and Gibson, provides strong projection and a broad dynamic range. The combination of mahogany and the dreadnought body shape offers a well-rounded sound, making the D125CE well-suited for various musical genres and playing styles.

Neck:

The guitar's neck is attached to the body via a traditional dovetail joint, ensuring superior structural integrity. Crafted from traditional mahogany, the neck provides excellent sustain and flexibility, making fretting and bending notes with ease. The D125CE features a 25.6-inch scale length and a 1.6875-inch nut width, providing a comfortable playing experience for most players.

Fingerboard:

Topping off the neck is a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. Rosewood is a dense, hardwood with a rich, warm tone and beautiful grain patterns. The fingerboard features pearloid dot inlays, providing visual guidance along the length of the board. The 14-inch radius of the fingerboard offers a comfortable playing experience and seamless transition between frets, making the D125CE an ideal choice for intricate fingerstyle playing.

Hardware:

The D125CE's hardware includes a modern Guild Tusq Saddle and a compensated bone nut. These upgraded components offer superior tone transfer, enhanced sustain, and improved intonation, delivering a more responsive and balanced performance from the guitar. Further enhancing the playing experience, the guitar features Grover tuning machines, renowned for their smooth operation and reliable tune retention.

Electrics:

The D125CE is designed for versatility, making it suitable for both stage and studio performances. It comes equipped with a Fishman Sonitone Pre-amp system. This under-saddle pickup system ensures a clear and natural sound reproduction, while also providing a three-band EQ for tone shaping and a built-in tuner to make fine-tuning easier than ever. A volume control knob can be found on the upper bout of the guitar for quick access to balancing the volume of the amplified and acoustic outputs.

Conclusion:

The D125CE Solid Mahogany acoustic-electric dreadnought guitar by Guild presents a perfect balance of traditional craftsmanship and modern features. With its solid mahogany construction, comfortable neck, high-quality hardware, and efficient electronic system, this guitar delivers a rich, warm, and balanced sound, complemented by impressive projection and playability. Whether you're a seasoned professional or a beginner, the D125CE offers an unforgettable playing experience and a timeless instrument that's sure to captivate audiences and inspire musicians for years to come.

Pros and Cons of Buying a D125-CE Guild Acoustic Guitar with Solid Mahogany Top

Introduction:

The D125-CE Guild Acoustic-electric guitar with a solid mahogany top is a popular choice among musicians due to its tonal quality, playability, and versatility. Let's explore the pros and cons to help you decide if this guitar is the right investment for you.

Pros:

1. Superior Tone: A solid mahogany top adds warmth, balance, and richness to the sound, while the scalloped X-bracing offers increased acoustic projection and volume.

2. Versatility: The cutaway body design and the Fishman Sonitone pickup system make the D125-CE a competent instrument for both acoustic and electric performances.

3. Comfortable Playability: Guild's Slim Neck profile allows for easy access to the higher frets, ensuring a comfortable playing experience for musicians.

4. High-quality Construction: Solid mahogany top, laminates of layered mahogany back and sides, and a gloss finish add to the durability and appearance of the instrument.

5. Resonant Body Shape: The D125-CE follows the classic dreadnought body shape that provides a full, powerful sound with excellent projection.

Cons:

1. Cost: The solid mahogany top coupled with high-quality electronics increases the price of the guitar compared to its counterparts with laminated tops.

2. Heavier Weight: Mahogany tends to be heavier than the alternate tonewoods like spruce, making the D125-CE slightly more cumbersome to carry and transport.

3. Nitrocellulose Finish: While creating a rich appearance, the nitrocellulose finish is more susceptible to damage from perspiration, humidity, and temperature changes, requiring frequent maintenance and care.

Conclusion:

The D125-CE Guild Acoustic-electric Guitar with a solid mahogany top boasts superior tone, versatility, and high-quality construction, but the increased cost, weight, and maintenance demands may turn off some potential buyers. Nevertheless, considering these pros and cons, the D125-CE's unique characteristics and advanced features may justify the investment for musicians who value superior acoustic and electric tonal qualities.

Recommendation:

The D125-CE Guild Acoustic-electric Guitar with a solid mahogany top is an excellent choice for professional musicians, songwriters, and those passionate about high-end acoustic guitars. Its rich, balanced tone and versatility make it a versatile instrument suitable for recording sessions, live performances, and practice at home. If your budget allows and you highly value these features, consider the D125-CE as a rewarding long-term investment in your musical journey.

Details:

Note: you can see reflections of pot lights in my ceiling the photos, these are not marks on guitar. It was playing really low and I had a Luther raise the action up little for my liking. There is some surface scratching where the arm rests on lower bout that can be seen in photos.

Case is about 6 10 condition. I will restring it with brand new strings prior to shipping. If I was keeping this would be adding a bone nut and saddle it even closer to the higher end guitars. I have a martin d35 and Taylor 914 this little Guild still sounds pretty darn good next to those 2.

Guitar condition is very good, just slight normal handling playing marks. Missing 2 latches and lots of dings marks in the cover but its still solid enough protection for guitar. Includes Guild case.

Its a really nice warm sounding guitar. That said, I have 2 high end guitars and an old beater for travelling so this one doesn't get much play time to it someone will.
