Pros and Cons of Buying an Acoustic 912c Guitar (Taylor, Humidified, 1994)

I. Introduction

The Taylor 912ce 1994, specifically the acoustic 912c humidified version, is a highly sought-after guitar due to its excellent craftsmanship and distinctive tonal qualities. While considering purchasing this guitar, it's essential to weigh its benefits against potential drawbacks.

II. Pros

1. Superior Sound Quality: Known for their exceptional sound, Taylor guitars deliver crisp highs, strong mid-range, and powerful bass. The 912c, with its solid Sitka spruce top and layered tropical mahogany back and sides, offers a well-balanced sound that perfectly complements various musical genres.

2. Humidification System: This guitar includes a factory-installed Taylor TRU-BraceTM system, which maintains appropriate humidity levels, ensuring the wood remains stable, minimizes the risk of cracks, and optimizes the overall performance of the instrument.

3. Playability: Over the years, the neck of this guitar has likely settled, resulting in a smooth, comfortable playing experience. The compact Grand Concert body style offers greater access to the high frets, making it an ideal choice for players with smaller hands or for those who enjoy a more intimate sound.

4. Durability: As a 27-year-old guitar, this 912c has likely been crafted using high-quality materials and construction techniques that contribute to its durability. With proper care, it should continue to perform beautifully for years to come.

III. Cons

1. Age and Wear: While the age and wear of a guitar can contribute to its unique character, it also comes with potential drawbacks like possible cosmetic imperfections, the potential for structural issues, and the need for repairs or upgrades.

2. Potential Repairs and Upgrades: Older guitars might require additional investments to maintain their functionality and condition. Since this guitar is 27-years-old, you should anticipate some costs related to maintenance.

3. Limited Availability: Due to the age of this specific guitar model, it may be more challenging to find it being sold at local music shops or online without paying a premium price.

4. Cost: Compared to newer models, vintage Taylors like the 912c can be more expensive due to their rarity and prestige. This increased cost may make it less accessible to some guitar enthusiasts.

IV. Conclusion

The Taylor 912c humidified (1994) model boasts superior sound quality, a factory-installed humidification system, optimized playability, and exceptional durability. However, it comes with potential drawbacks like age-related wear, potential repairs and upgrades, limited availability, and a higher cost compared to newer models.

V. Recommendation

If you are a dedicated guitar enthusiast who values the unique character and tonal qualities of a vintage instrument, the Taylor 912c humidified (1994) model is a worthwhile investment. However, if you seek a more cost-effective or readily-available guitar option, you may want to consider newer Taylor models or alternatives from other renowned brands. Ultimately, your decision should be based on your budget, personal preferences, and playing style.

Details:

I'll pay shipping in the lower 48. The guitar has a solid spruce top and absolutely beautiful rosewood back and sides. Good luck and god bless. It has 1 micro dent on the lower front and a few micro dings along the lower edge of the back side.

Also a unique red binding. It plays beautifully and is as fancy as they get. In 1994 this guitar was sold new for the guitar has always been humidified. Abalone Cindy inlay on the bridge and full abalone trim really does this guitar up.

Up for bid is a beautiful Taylor 1994 912C cutaway acoustic guitar.

Possibly from buttons on a shirt. Don't pass this one up. Very light pick scratches that are nearly invisible. No overseas shipping please.

Dollars and was the most expensive Taylor sold. I still have the original 1994 price list and will add it to the sale. This guitar is in unbelievable condition for a 22 year old guitar.

This guitar is near mint. The case is also near mint with just a few marks at the bottom of the case. Some new guitars look worse than this off the shelf.

It has a few light scratches in a small grouped area on the back side of the cutout.
