Review TAYLOR Converted Left Handed Fall Limited Cocobolo Acoustic Guitar

Introducing the 814-LTD Converted Fall 2002 Cocobolo Taylor Acoustic Guitar, a stunning and unique instrument from Taylor Guitars' coveted 800 series. This exquisite guitar is a special edition piece, with the "Fall 2002" moniker indicating it was built using tone woods that were harvested and aged during that specific season, which contributes to its distinctive tone and character.

The body of this guitar is crafted from rare and beautiful Cocobolo wood. Known for its vivid, figurative grain and rich, warm color, Cocobolo is a prized choice for acoustic guitar builders. Its density and tight grain make it an excellent tonewood, offering a powerful, articulate sound with exceptional clarity and midrange presence.

The 814-LTD Converted Fall 2002 Cocobolo is a grand auditorium body shape, which offers a versatile and balanced tone. The guitar has a compact size that's comfortable for most players, yet it delivers a surprising amount of power and volume for its size. The body's contours are gracefully curves, allowing for easy access to the last few frets.

The neck of this guitar is made from revered Sapele wood, a sustainable and durable choice that offers a smooth, comfortable feel. It features a 12-fret design, which places the neck joint at the 12th fret instead of the more common 14th fret. This design results in a shorter scale length (24-3/4 inches) and an easier reach to the upper frets, making it an excellent choice for players with smaller hands or those who prefer a more compact neck profile.

The 814-LTD Converted Fall 2002 Cocobolo guitar sports Taylor's renowned Expression System 2 electronics, which delivers an authentic and natural amplified sound. The pickup system is discreetly installed, ensuring the integrity of the guitar's traditional appearance while providing excellent tone transfer and amplification.

Custom appointments abound on this special edition 814, including strap buttons that blend seamlessly into the body, elegantly detailed rosette, and top binding, polished chrome tuning machines, and delicate Italian acrylic dot inlays that adorn the ebony fretboard.

In summary, the 814-LTD Converted Fall 2002 Cocobolo Taylor Acoustic Guitar is a breathtaking instrument, boasting a unique and rare Cocobolo wood body, -12 fret neck design, Sapele neck, and Taylor's renowned Expression System 2 electronics. This special edition guitar not only provides a stunning look and exceptional craftsmanship, but it also offers a rich, warm, and articulate tonal experience.

Pros and Cons of Buying a Taylor 814-Limited Edition Cocobolo Acoustic Guitar (Fall 2002)

Introduction:

The Taylor 814-Limited Edition Cocobolo acoustic guitar, released in fall 2002, is a highly coveted instrument among guitar enthusiasts. Here are some pros and cons to help you make an informed decision about purchasing this guitar.

Pros:

1. Superior Craftsmanship: The 814-Limited Edition model features Taylor's top-tier build quality, with a solid cocobolo back and sides and a Sitka spruce top. Such a combination results in great tone, volume, and clarity.

2. Unique Aesthetic: The cocobolo wood used for the back and sides provides a distinctively beautiful and eye-catching appearance, making it an attractive centerpiece for guitar collections.

3. Ergonomic Neck: The guitar features Taylor's renowned neck design, making it comfortable for most players due to its reasonable scale length, slim profile, and smooth finish.

4. Outstanding Sound Quality: Cocobolo is known for producing a rich, warm, and punchy sound. Combined with the Sitka spruce top, the Taylor 814 offers excellent tonal balance and dynamic range.

Cons:

1. Expensive: The Taylor 814-Limited Edition model is a high-end instrument, pricey compared to many other guitars on the market. This may be a limiting factor for musicians on a budget.

2. Heavy: Cocobolo wood is denser than most other woods used for guitar construction. Consequently, the Taylor 814 can be heavier than its counterparts, which can be a concern for some players, particularly those prone to shoulder strain or fatigue.

3. Sensitive to Humidity: Cocobolo wood is susceptible to changes in humidity, so it requires excellent care and humidification to maintain its stability and prevent potential cracks. This can add to the time and cost of ownership compared to other guitars.

Conclusion:

The Taylor 814-Limited Edition Cocobolo acoustic guitar represents a significant investment, offering unparalleled craftsmanship, captivating aesthetic, and superior tone. Its unique features make it an excellent choice for serious musicians, collectors, or those willing to invest in a high-quality instrument with a distinct and beautiful sound. Considering its high price point, potential buyers should carefully weigh the pros and cons before making a final decision.

Recommendation:

If you are in the market for a top-tier acoustic guitar with a rich, dynamic sound and exceptional build quality that combines the captivating visual appeal of cocobolo wood, the Taylor 814-Limited Edition could be an excellent investment. Commit yourself to proper care and maintenance, and this guitar will reward you with a lifetime of exceptional musical journey.

Details:

Incredible guitar. It amplifies the guitar really well. I have kept it in a humidified environment, non smoking. I am selling my collection and it does not get the playing time deserves.

Cocobolo is a dense, stiff tropical hardwood with fairly bright tone. Comes with original Taylor hard shell case. It has been converted from a right handed to left guitar. Gold Goth tuners.

Solid steak spruce front, cocobolo back and sides. It has aftermarket electronics in the form of a mic which can be seem picture. Cosmetically, it is in excellent condition and has no chips, cracks, dents, etc.

So for the lefties out there, this is a chance to own an awesome looking and sounding guitar. Conically this guitar resonates a little deeper in the mid and low ends which really valences it out. It has a rich sound which covers all ranges and the body shape of this guitar is very versatile can be used for backpacking flat picking. There are no issues with this guitar cosmetically or its sound.

Its beautiful cocobolo sides and back construction give it a pure tone resonance as described by Taylor. I dont know what kind of electronics were installed as they came with the guitar when purchased it. Mpn 6 model: 814e ltd type: grand auditorium series: special edition cocobolo back and sides has been used on: presentation series, other limited editions as well custom guitars this is a gorgeous guitar. Fast and responsive neck, full, bright tone wonderful intonation.

It is a converted left handed guitar which could be reconverted back to right if so desired. This guitar is a wonderful sounding and I prefer the cocobolo rosewood tone wood to standard rosewoods used today.
